Two traffic police officers are under investigation after an anti-corruption operation along the Maua–Makutano Road in Meru County led to their arrest and the recovery of KSh 23,000.
The operation was carried out by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) following allegations that motorists were being extorted and asked to pay bribes near Kemu.
The officers arrested were Senior Sergeant Robert Kibet Busienei and Police Constable Janet Rose Makena.
Investigators also seized a Toyota Fielder bearing registration number KDC 873T during the operation. The vehicle had been parked beside the road.
After the arrests, the two officers were taken to the commission’s Upper Eastern Regional Office in Isiolo for processing and statement recording.
The arrests come amid the commission’s continued efforts to address bribery allegations involving public officers.
