LSK Protests in Nairobi Over Murder of Lawyer Kyalo Mbobu

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) on Friday staged a protest in Nairobi to demand justice following the brutal killing of lawyer Kyalo Mbobu, urging the government to guarantee the safety of legal practitioners.

The demonstration began at the Milimani Law Courts, where lawyers dressed in black suits and purple ribbons to signify mourning marched in solidarity. The procession proceeded to the Supreme Court before heading to the office of Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, where the society submitted a petition calling for swift and thorough investigations into Mbobu’s murder.

Leading the march, LSK President Faith Odhiambo compared the incident to the killing of lawyer Willy Kimani, warning that the legal fraternity would not remain silent in the face of repeated attacks on its members.

“If an advocate cannot be protected, it means the public has no one to defend them. As the Law Society, we condemn this heinous act and any threat to the lives of advocates. Whatever the grievance, taking a lawyer’s life is not the solution,” Odhiambo declared.

She further urged IG Kanja to ensure investigations are concluded and those responsible face justice.

Senior Counsel Philip Murgor, who also addressed the gathering, underscored the need for state protection of lawyers.
“Ours is a difficult job. What we need is support not rumors or distractions. What we demand are credible investigations and concrete action,” he said.

Lawyer Pravin Bowry echoed the call, stressing that it is the duty of the police and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to deliver justice.

The LSK President, Faith Odhiambo addressing members of the Legal fraternity outside Vigilance House said that the law should never be taken into anyone’s hands since Kenya as a Country has courts for a reason.
