Margaret Chweya seated in court with her first born son Rodney Chweya

A US based woman who claims to be one of the wives of the late Minister Simeon Nyachae says she loved him even though had four wives before her.

Margaret Chweya told court on Tuesday that she met Nyachae in 1973 when she was 19 years old while working as a surbodinate staff at Jogoo House.

She told court that they met in a lift and he allegedly tapped her at the lift area while coming from the VIP lift and asked if she was Kisii.

Chweya said she confirmed that she was indeed Kisii and he told her that he would be back the next weeked to take her out for a drink.

They met the following weekend and she said he declared interest in her and she fell in love with him overtime.

“He declared his interest in me and I fell in love with him because he was very kind and caring,” she said.

Chweya told Justice Eric Ogola that after a few months Nyachae told her that he wanted to get married to her but not in church or at the AG because he was already married to other women.

“He said he wanted to get married to me traditionally because he had three wives then so he couldn’t take me to church or Judge,” the court heard.

She said since she was an orphan then with a stepmother who she was not in good terms with, she gave the name of her uncle as the one to receive her dowry.

Chweya said Nyachae paid her dowry through his elder brother who allegedly took an envelope to her uncle.

“I stayed with mzee in Kariokor and off-course at that time i think I was the fifth wife but I loved him just like that,” she said.

Chweya further said that Nyachae loved her so much and he provided for her every need and even took her back to school.

However, things got messy for her after giving birth to her second born when she claims that the fourth wife then threatened her life which forced Nyachae to fly her to the US where she had been ever since.

“His fourth wife was jealous and threatened me with my children that’s why he organized for us to leave the country for our own safety,” she said.

She told court that she left the country with diplomatic passports through the intervention of Nyachae and he used to visit her in the US.

She claimed that her late husband bought her a house in Loresho just a few months after she left Kenya and he rented it out for her where she got rent proceeds from it.

An emotional Chweya told court that Mzee loved her so much but she was not able to be with him during his last days.

She said her co-wives blocked every avenue she used to get to him until he died and even then she was chased from his burial.
