Political blogger Pauline Njoroge was on Monday set free after spending the better part of the day in court waiting to answer to charges of cyber harassment and publication of false information.

Njoroge who was arrested on Saturday in Watamu alongside Jane Nduta and Emanze Jilani were arraigned before a Malindi court.

However, the chargesheet that was circulating online only had Njoroge’s name and police wanted to charge for the posting several tweets on her social media sites.

On Saturday the police had initially said they had arrested them for being in possession of narcotic drugs but on Monday they changed the offences to cybercrime.

On the first count, the charge sheet reads that on Saturday 22, Njoroge posted on false information on her twitter page that “the massacre happening in Nyanza is heart-breaking. The images are so painful to see. Men organs are being mutilated, other forms of atrocities, crimes against humanity also happening especially in Nyalenda area. Why would the government persecute its people in such a manner. Why would it terrorize its own citizen?”

It was alleged that the said tweet was made knowing it was false and was calculated to cause panic and chaos among citizens of the republic.

She was also alleged to have tweeted “So police officers will now be using South Sudan’s number plates when going to raid homes of innocent Kenyans?”

Njoroge was also to face two counts of cyber harassment where it is alleged that she harassed the head of state by tweeting “William Ruto surely? This is how low you want to stoop?”

The police claimed that the said tweets were meant to discredit the reputation of the president.

However, Njoroge did not plead to the charges that had been put down on the said alleged chargesheet.
