Brian Kiprono, accused of illegally swapping the SIM card of Central OCS Samson Talaam while in the custody of the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), will remain behind bars as the court awaits a probation report.

Kiprono appeared before Magistrate Caroline Nyagothie seeking a lenient bond, arguing that he resides and works in Nairobi and would faithfully attend all court sessions if released. He told the court he is the sole provider for his family, whose welfare has been severely affected by his detention, leaving them without basic needs and under emotional strain.

He further claimed to suffer from a chronic illness requiring consistent medication, which he said is not adequately available in custody.

The court allowed the probation officer’s request for three additional days to verify Kiprono’s claims before ruling on his release.

Representing the complainant, lawyers Danstan Omari and Stanley Kinyanjui supported the prosecution’s stance and indicated they would file an objection to Kiprono’s application during this period.

The case is set for mention on Tuesday, August 19, 2025.
