The High Court in Nairobi has ordered police and several government agencies to produce missing lawyer Abshar Ahmedsadak Abdi, alive or dead, following an urgent application by his brother, Zakaria Abshir.
In orders issued on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, Milimani High Court Judge Alexander Muasya Muteti directed the respondents to produce Abdi in court at 2:30 pm and explain why he should not be released if held in custody.
According to court documents, Abdi was last heard from on October 31, when he informed his brother that he intended to attend a friend’s wedding in Kilimani. His phones became unreachable the following morning.
On November 1, his family was informed that his white Toyota Premio, registration number KDL 356C, had been found abandoned along Muchai Road, off Ngong Road, with visible scratches and dents.
The family claims witnesses saw two vehicles, a black Toyota Land Cruiser Prado TX and a black double-cab pickup, pursuing Abdi’s car. Armed individuals allegedly intercepted him, forced him out of his vehicle and drove away with him in the Land Cruiser.
His disappearance was reported at Kilimani Police Station under OB Number 55/1/11/2026.
In the court application, his brother also raised concerns over alleged previous threats against Abdi, who is reportedly a witness in an ongoing criminal case at Makadara Law Courts.
The family further claims Abdi had previously been arrested in October 2025 by officers allegedly drawn from security agencies before being released.
Justice Muteti also directed the respondents to present any warrants authorising Abdi’s arrest and detention and warned that failure to comply with the court orders would attract penal consequences.
The matter was scheduled for hearing in open court at 2:30 pm on Wednesday.
