Two nurses from Kenyatta National Hospital have testified about the discovery of a patient who was allegedly brutally murdered inside the hospital, in a case in which fellow patient Kennedy Kalombotole is accused of killing Gilbert Kinyua Muthoni.
The nurses told the court that the gruesome incident was discovered after one of them entered the hospital ward where Kinyua and Kalombotole had been sharing a cubicle. The nurse said she was shocked to find blood all over the hospital bed, prompting her to alert the hospital’s security department.
Another nurse who testified in the case described the manner in which Kinyua was killed as shocking, telling the court that the patient had suffered a brutal death in the ward and his throat had been cut.
The evidence emerged as the prosecution continued presenting its case against Kalombotole, who is charged with the murder of Kinyua at Kenyatta National Hospital.
The circumstances surrounding the killing are expected to form a key part of the prosecution’s case as the trial proceeds, with witnesses giving evidence on what they allegedly saw and the events surrounding the discovery of the deceased.
According to the testimony presented in court, the two patients had been sharing a cubicle at the hospital before the incident. The discovery of blood on the hospital bed raised alarm at the facility, leading to the involvement of the hospital’s security department.
The second nurse’s testimony further highlighted the severity of the injuries suffered by Kinyua, particularly the allegation that his throat had been cut.
Kalombotole faces the murder charge in connection with Kinyua’s death. The prosecution is expected to call further witnesses as it seeks to establish the circumstances under which the patient died and Kalombotole’s alleged involvement.
The Murder trial will proceed on October 29,2026.
