Court Blocks Viral Posts Linking MP Nabii Nabwera to death of School Principal.

The High Court has stepped in to protect Lugari MP Nabii Daraja Nabwera from a wave of damaging online allegations after granting temporary orders stopping further publication of posts linking him to the disappearance and death of Munyuki High School Principal, Simon Isiaho Shange.

In the urgent application filed on 10th November 2025, MP Nabwera accused one George Opunga Tamata of running a coordinated online smear campaign through various social media pages, among them Kakamega Post, Malava Online, and Lugari Watchdog. The posts, according to court documents, allegedly portrayed the legislator as being involved in the teacher’s disappearance with captions such as “vanished after defying an MP” and “MP Nabii Daraja come clean on the death of this teacher.”

The MP argues that the allegations were not only false and malicious but also triggered threats against his home in Lugari, exposing his family to insecurity and inflicting serious reputational injury despite what he describes as a strong public record of service in the constituency.

In an ex parte decision, the court issued interim injunctions stopping the defendant from posting, circulating, or republishing the contested material until the substantive issues are heard. The matter is now set for inter partes hearing on 20th November 2025, where both sides will present their arguments.

Advocate Danstan Omari, representing the MP, told the court that the orders were necessary to halt further harm to Nabwera’s character, stressing that the defendant stood to suffer no prejudice while the defamatory claims undergo judicial scrutiny.

The ruling now offers the MP a temporary shield as the High Court prepares to examine the authenticity, intent, and impact of the disputed posts.
