Police in Molo, Nakuru County, are searching for a man suspected of killing an 18-year-old Form Four student at her home in the Kiambaa area.
The body of Joy Wangui was discovered inside her family’s house on September 4, 2026, after her brother returned from a nearby shop, according to a police report. The brother told investigators that he had left Wangui at home when he went to the shop. On returning, he reportedly found her lifeless inside the house.
Police officers from Molo Police Station, accompanied by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers, visited the scene and found the teenager’s body in the kitchen. Investigators said Wangui had suffered severe injuries, with her head found separately in a corridor within the house. An axe, panga and two knives believed to have been used in the attack were recovered at the scene. The weapons had what police suspected was blood on them and were collected as part of the investigation. Detectives also reported discovering a message written on a wall in what they believe was the victim’s blood.
Wangui was a Form Four student at Molo Secondary School, according to preliminary investigations.
Police have identified Walter Kipkoech, who is believed to have been in a relationship with the deceased, as the main suspect. Investigators said he disappeared from the area following the killing and his whereabouts remain unknown. The scene was processed by detectives before Wangui’s remains were taken to the Molo Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where they are awaiting a postmortem examination.
A search operation in the surrounding area had not yielded an arrest when the initial police report was filed. DCI officers in Molo have taken over the investigation as efforts to locate and apprehend the suspect continue.
