The Director of Public Prosecutions has filed a notice of appeal against last week’s acquittal of former News anchor Jacque Maribe from businesswoman Monica Kimani murder.

The DPP says it’s dissatisfied with the part of the judgement delivered by Justice Grace Nzioka which acquitted and discharged Maribe from any wrongdoing in the murder.

“Take notice that the Republic, the intended Appellant herein, being dissatisfied with the decision of the High Court of Kenya at Nairobi (Hon. G. Nzioka), delivered in Nairobi on the 9th of February 2024, appeals to the Court of Appeal against the part of the judgment acquitting the 2nd Accused Person,” the notice reads.

Maribe was exonerated on Friday in the judgement delivered by Justice Nzioka who said there was no evidence linking Maribe to the murder.

Justice Nzioka said that from the evidence produced the only offense Maribe committed was lying to the police about the Jowie’s shooting incident.

The judge said the offense of murder was not a proper charge to bring to court and she should have been charged with giving false information to a public officer.

Maribe’s family and friends celebrated her win saying they were grateful to God for journey so far and the win in court.

Dennis Itumbi was also present in court alongside her other friends who stood with her from when she was first arraigned in court in 2018.

Maribe’s father was emotional as he hugged his daughter bringing to a close tears of agony for the family who gave attended every court session since she was charged.

However, Jowie was not so lucky as the court convicted him ruling that there was sufficient evidence to prove that he killed Monica.
