The DPP has asked the court to mete out to ex-Governor Moses Lenolkulal and his co-accused the harshest sentence including being barred from ever holding public office.
The DPP argued that the purpose of a sentence should be to make inference that Individuals in the positions of leadership won’t go unpunished should they commit corruption.
It was their further argument that Samburu County is one of the marginalized areas in Kenya hence the corruption offence committed by the former Governor was a betrayal to the County resident.
“Communities have to feel the sense of security and sleep like babies knowing their funds are safe in the hands of their leaders,” the prosecution said
The ODPP further told court that the trust bestowed to the former county boss by the people of Samburu was mutilated the moment he committed the offence.
They claimed that the accused persons hoodwinked Samburu County and facilitated the commission of the heinous corruption.
On their part, EACC urged the trial Magistrate Thomas Nzyoki to implore section 64 of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act to block all the Convicts from holding any public office.
