A 48-year-old man was arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts today on Monday, November 24, 2025, charged with impersonating a high-ranking military officer and running a fraudulent recruitment racket.

Joshua Muthwii Maingi appeared before chief magistrate Dolphina Alego facing multiple counts, including personation, possession of government stores, and obtaining money by false pretenses.
According to court documents, Maingi is accused of posing as a Brigadier of the Kenya Air Force to defraud desperate parents seeking employment for their children in the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).

The suspect was apprehended on November 17, 2025, at his residence in Cherrywood Apartments, located in the upmarket Kilimani sub-county, Nairobi.
Police reports indicate that during the arrest, Maingi was found in possession of military paraphernalia suspected to be stolen or unlawfully obtained. The items listed in Count II of the charge sheet include:
* One pair of Kenya Air Force combat dress.
* Two slip-ons bearing the rank of Brigadier.
* Two gorget patches for a ranking officer (Brigadier).
* One Kenya Air Force badge.

The prosecution alleges that Maingi targeted parents by claiming he had the influence to secure admission letters for the KDF Recruit Training School (RTS) at Moi Barracks, Eldoret.
In Count III, the court heard that on October 7, 2025, Maingi allegedly obtained Ksh 700,000 from Mr. Kenneth Lomerical Kimaiwa. The suspect falsely pretended he could secure a military slot for Kimaiwa’s son, Kelvin Chilimo Kimaiwa.
Similarly, in Count IV, Maingi is accused of defrauding Mr. Robert Kipkurui Ng’etich of Ksh 510,000 on November 10, 2025, at the same Kilimani apartment complex. He allegedly promised to provide a KDF admission letter for Ng’etich’s daughter, Brenda Chepkorir.

He pleaded not guilty to all the charges. Court granted him a bond of Kshs. 1million and a cashabail of Ksh. 500,000
