The investigating officer in the murder of Lawyer Kyalo Mbobu has told the court that police officer Julius Cheruiyot was the person who allegedly shot and killed Mbobu.
According to the investigator, Cheruiyot was allegedly part of a group involved in tracking Mbobu and executing the plan that culminated in his death. The court heard that Nicholas Naula allegedly provided transport, ferrying Cheruiyot to and from the scene of the murder.
The investigating officer further told the court that Noah Kipkurui Langat had been tasked with surveying and monitoring Mbobu’s movements before the killing. Police officer Kennedy Kipkemei, the court was told, was allegedly responsible for coordinating the logistics of the operation. Inspector Patrick Wachira told Court that it was Rose Mbithe who financed the trailing and execution of Lawyer Kyalo Mbobu.
Mathew Kyalo Mbobu was an advocate of the high the High court of Kenya and a renowned city lawyer practicing at Kyalo and associates firm based within Nairobi CBD. He was fatally shot on the 9th of September 2025 at around l800hrs near Brookhouse intonational school while driving his motor vehicle .
The Court heard that a Ceska pistol, serial number model CZ 85B KEKP F5508 was recovered and examined, and the ballistic report linked the recovered cartridge cases and bullet head found at the murder scene to the said firearm. Investigations have also established that the said firearm was issued to Julius Cheruiyot a police officer stationed at Pangani police station.
According to the investigating officer, investigations established that the late Kyalo Mbobu was representing the family of Professor David Musyimi Ndetei in property land dispute before Machakos law court.
The four suspects will remain in police custody until October 9, 2026 waiting further directions from the DPP.
