Kenya’s Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Renson M. Ingonga, has earned another feather in his cap after being unanimously elected as a Supernumerary Member of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP). The election was conducted on 9th September 2025 during the association’s 30th Annual Conference and General Meeting in Singapore.

This global recognition comes hot on the heels of his election as President of the Africa Association of Prosecutors (APA) during its 17th Annual Conference in Marrakesh, Morocco, in July 2024, and his successful leadership in hosting the 23rd Commonwealth Heads of Prosecuting Agencies Conference (HOPAC) in Mombasa in July 2025.

The election is being hailed as a significant milestone for both Kenya and the African continent, highlighting Africa’s growing influence in shaping global prosecutorial discourse. It also underscores Kenya’s steady commitment to advancing international justice initiatives through active engagement, cooperation, and thought leadership.

Speaking after the announcement, Ingonga expressed gratitude and humility at the trust placed in him:

“I am humbled by this election and the responsibility that comes with it. Prosecutors play a critical role in the fair administration of justice, and this opportunity allows us to exchange experiences, embrace best practices, and discharge our mandate with integrity, professionalism, and firmness.”

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) extended its appreciation to the IAP for the confidence in Ingonga’s leadership. It reiterated its dedication to the rule of law, prosecutorial excellence, and international collaboration, emphasizing that the new role will serve as a unique platform to address emerging global challenges and strengthen prosecutorial standards across jurisdictions.

The ODPP pledged to remain steadfast in its mission to uphold justice, promote international cooperation, and continue raising prosecutorial standards, cementing Kenya’s place on the global stage of criminal justice reform.
