A voter from Meru County is facing arrest after a High Court judge issued a warrant against him for sending an inappropriate message during a virtual court session. The incident occurred during a hearing where Governor Kawira Mwangaza was challenging her impeachment.
Justice Bahati Mwamuye, who was presiding over the case, was interrupted when a message appeared on the virtual court platform. The message, sent by a user identified as Kimson Moses, read:
“Kindly our court. Kindly note that in Meru we are suffering. Kindly let us know why Kawira is still holding office. We don’t have doctors in our hospitals for more than 60 days now.“
Startled by the interruption, Justice Mwamuye requested the user to turn on his camera and microphone to explain his comment. However, Kimson refused to comply, remaining online but silent. After giving him multiple opportunities to address the court, the judge, frustrated by the lack of response, issued a warrant for his arrest.
In his ruling, Justice Mwamuye directed the ICT department of the judiciary to collect Kimson’s details and hand them over to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). The judge ordered the DCI to electronically and forensically trace the individual and bring him before the court.
“I issue a warrant of arrest for that user, and the DCI shall electronically and forensically trace that person and bring them before this court,” Justice Mwamuye stated.
Governor Kawira Mwangaza remains in office after securing a court order suspending her impeachment pending the hearing and determination of her case. The case has been adjourned until tomorrow.
