MMU first year student Sylvia Kemunto whose body was found dumped in a water tank inside the campus was strangled to death by her assailant.
Speaking to the press after the postmortem,Dr. Johansen Oduor, the chief government pathologist said she died as a result of strangulation and she was also hit with a blunt object.
Dr. Oduor said the late 20-year-old had multiple injuries on the head and on the lower and upper limps which she sustained during the murder.
She also had injuries on the neck proving that she suffocated after being strangled by her killer.
Dr. Oduor clarified that in his observation, Sylvia was not pregnant at the time of her death as has been alleged on social media.
Yesterday, primary suspect in the murder 19-year-old student at the same university Erick Mutinda was detained in custody pending investigations and subsequent directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions if he will be charged with murder.
Mutinda is said to have surrendered himself to a police station at Makueni County after learning that the sleuths were tracking him.
