Mombasa County officials now say that they are ready and prepared for the rains by taking measures to drainage systems within the island are properly serviced.
The county executive in charge of transport and infrastructure Daniel Otieno Manyala said the move is on the lessons they had learned from last year’s El Nino rains.
He said it’s important for Kenyans to learn from previous incidents to avert similar incidents from recurring.
“There are a number of measures the county has taken to avert tragedies as a result of flooding in the county,” he said
He said the county government has taken measures to tackle the ongoing rains to prevent tragedies as a result of floods.
The county executive told the media there will be no serious flooding no matter how much it rains on the island.
Manyala added the roundabout drainage systems are properly drained whenever there are heavy rains saying that the eyes of the county government are open in all the areas within the county.
“We have come up with a robust measure with local serikali mtaani who are our eyes on the ground,” he said
The county executive said there are people on the ground who report incidents within the six sub counties.
Manyala said they have set up a robust response and rescue centre and they are ready and prepared in case of any incidents.
