Omar Lali to Face Murder Charges Over Tecra Muigai’s Death

Omar Lali is set to be charged with the murder of his late girlfriend, Tecra Muigai, after a court found him criminally liable for her death. The ruling, delivered by Senior Principal Magistrate Zainab Abdul, directed the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to initiate murder charges against Lali.

“I find Omar Lali criminally culpable for the murder of Tecra Muigai and, therefore, recommend that the DPP exercises the powers vested in him by the Constitution and institutes charges against Omar Lali,” the court ruled.

The case followed an inquest into the death of Tecra, the daughter of Nakuru Senator Tabitha Karanja, to determine the circumstances leading to her fatal injuries. During the proceedings, Lali’s testimony raised doubts, with the court pointing to inconsistencies between his account and the medical findings.

Magistrate Abdul highlighted that Lali’s narrative of how Tecra sustained her fatal injuries did not align with the postmortem report or the doctor’s conclusions. “The account given by Omar Lali regarding what transpired during the alleged accident contradicted the findings of the postmortem report and the doctor’s assessment,” the magistrate stated.

The court further noted that no one else was present at the scene of the incident except for Tecra and Lali, making it impossible for anyone to either support or refute his version of events. Additionally, the court found that the severity of Tecra’s brain injuries, as described in the postmortem report, was inconsistent with Lali’s claim that she simply fell.

With the court’s ruling, the DPP is expected to file formal murder charges against Lali, moving the case into its next phase.
