An MP aspirant in last year general elections was ejected from a plane by detectives on suspicion of being behind several gold scams in the city.

Jonathan Opande who unsuccessfully contested for the Nyakach Parliamentary seat was arrested as he was living the city for Kisumu.

According to police, Opande is said to be one of Nairobi’s infamous gold scammers has been escaping several police dragnets in the past few months.

Opande popularly known as Chairman/Kiongozi was has been engaging detectives in cat and mouse games and is wanted in connection to a case where he defrauded two Thai nationals over Sh 13 million, in a fake gold deal.

It is alleged he duped Messrs Kitvisit Songsri and Nutsaphol Songsri April this year.

Opande posed as the CEO of Blu Afrique LTD and obtained the money from them in the pretext that he would supply them gold whose quantity was not immediately established.

The two foreigners had traveled to the country on April 17 to seal the deal when they realized days later that they were the latest victims of Opande and his accomplices.

The two had been introduced to Opande by his accomplice Fred Obach Oliech who has already been charged.

Police also recovered a dust coat branded Ministry of Mining, KRA export seals and digital weighing scales among other crucial exhibits from Opande’s Lavington office.

Opande is currently being held at Buruburu police station pending arraignment on Monday.
