A JKIA court on Monday sentenced two men to five years behind bars after they were guilty of unlawful possession of four elephant tusks weighing 24.9 kilograms and valued at Sh 2.49 million.
Today’s court news reports that; Senior Principal Magistrate Njeri Thuku sentenced Moriati Ole Kimore and Lepapa Saruni to five years in prison each after finding them guilty of the offense.
The two were arrested on August 28, 2024, in the Ntarara area of Kajiado South Sub-County. The two were apprehended while transporting the ivory on a motorcycle by members of the Serious Crimes Unit, operating under a multi-agency task force made up of various national security bodies.
During the trial, the Prosecution, led by Ms. Paula Rono, presented strong and convincing evidence that tied the accused directly to the illegal possession and transportation of the ivory.
