Taita Taveta County Deputy Speaker Anselm Chao was on Monday charged with Sh 1.2 Million fraud in relation to illegal payment of a Zanzibar trip for some committee members.
Chao denied several counts of fraud including uttering false documents, financial misconduct and false accounting.
It is alleged that he used his office to confer a benefit of Sh1,246,870 to five offices of the Taita Taveta County Assembly Liaison committee by approaving their payments for the training in Zanzibar knowing they were not members of the Liaison committee.
He was also charged with failing to comply with the law applicable, regulations and guidelines relating to procurement, Uttering false documents, False accounting andFinancial misconduct.
He was released on a bond of Sh 1 million or an alternative cash bail of Sh 500,000.
The case will be mentioned on March 11 2024 for pretrial.
