A taxi driver who unknowingly transported one of the now-accused persons on the night of MP George Muchai’s murder played a crucial role in the arrest of the seven suspects.

Police officer Francis Ole Singila told the court that the taxi driver identified one of the suspects by handing over two gun pins, which he alleged were left in his car by the suspect after dropping him home.

Singila stated that, using the taxi driver’s information and other leads, the police were able to trace Jane Wanjiru Kamau, who was interrogated. At around 4:30 PM, she led officers to her house, where two rounds of 9mm caliber ammunition were recovered at her doorstep, concealed under a concrete block.

Justice Kanyi Kimondo was informed that Wanjiru confessed the ammunition belonged to Mustapha Kimani, one of the accused persons.

Singila, who presented a G3 rifle believed to have been used in the murder of former Lower Kabete MP George Muchai in February 2015, said the taxi driver called him on the night of February 7, 2015, and handed over the two gun pins, claiming they were left in his car by Mustapha Kimani.

In the case, Eric Isabwa alias Chairman, Raphael Kimani alias Kim Butcher, Mustapha Kimani alias Musto, Stephen Astiva alias Chokore, Jane Wanjiru alias Shiro, Margaret Njeri, and Simon Wambugu are charged with the murders of George Muchai, his driver, and two bodyguards.

The late MP Muchai was killed in Nairobi’s Central Business District early Saturday morning, February 7, 2015, when an unidentified assailant sprayed his car with bullets.

The hearing of the case is set to proceed on April 7, 2025, when the prosecution is expected to call its final witness before closing its case.
