A Turkana County official and his business partner have been arrested over alleged conflict of interest in county contracts that earned their company Sh2.76 million between 2017 and 2021.
Gilbert Suleiman Eskuku, a registered nurse employed by the County Government of Turkana, and Abass Abdi Yusuf, his co-director at Ekwang Suppliers Company Limited, are expected to face charges of conflict of interest, money laundering and acquisition of proceeds of crime.
The Director of Public Prosecutions has approved their prosecution following investigations into contracts awarded to the company by the county government.
Investigators established that Eskuku allegedly used the company, in which he was a director alongside Yusuf, to secure contracts and receive payments from the same county government that employed him. The company received payments totalling Sh2,763,681 during the period under investigation. Eskuku is also accused of withdrawing the money in cash immediately after it was paid, allegedly to conceal the source of the funds.
The two suspects are being processed at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission’s North Rift Regional Office in Eldoret ahead of their arraignment before the Anti-Corruption Court on Thursday, October 15, 2026.
Authorities also intend to file civil proceedings to recover the money and seek forfeiture of assets established to have been acquired using proceeds of crime.
