Police in Limuru, Kiambu County, have arrested seven suspects accused of involvement in gang rape and violent robberies targeting people around local tea plantations and Braxton Tunnel.
The arrests were made during an intelligence-driven operation launched after concerns emerged over rising criminal activity in the popular scenic spots frequented by visitors and tourists.
Limuru Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) Mary Njoki said the suspects are believed to belong to a criminal network linked to attacks on members of the public in the affected areas. Njoki said the operation sought to identify and apprehend those suspected of orchestrating the incidents while improving safety for residents and visitors.
The suspects are expected to be presented in court to face charges relating to the alleged offences, including gang rape and robbery with violence, subject to the outcome of investigations and the prosecution’s decision.
Meanwhile, police have stepped up security patrols as detectives follow additional leads to establish the full extent of the reported criminal activities. Residents and visitors have been urged to remain alert and report suspicious behaviour to the relevant security agencies as investigations continue.
