Controversial preacher Paul Mackenzie and his co-suspects will spend 47 more days in custody to allow police conclude investigations into the Shakahola massacre.
In the ruling, Shanzu SPM Y. Shikanda allowed the application by the prosecution to continue holding Mackenzie and the other suspects to allow them conclude investigations.
The court said it found merit in the application by the state and ruled that they will be held in custody for a further 47 days.
Shikanda said most of the suspects in the matter had not told the court where their families were wondering where they would go if they are released.
The court said that by them not declaring the whereabouts of their children and spouses could mean that they may be among the bodies exhumed from Shakahola.
Mackenzie had strongly opposed his further detention claiming that they were being denied food while in custody.
The preacher who has been in custody for over 90 days now had asked court to dismiss the application by the prosecution.
The court has also directed KNCHR to investigate the complaints raised by Mackenzie concerning the treatment at the prison and file a reporr to court within 14 days.
The Officers in charge of the Shimo La Tewa, Kilifi and Malindi GK Prisons to have been ordered to allow the KNCHR officers to interview the suspects in custody.
