A man has been charged at the Milimani Law Courts with allegedly gaining unauthorised access to Premier Bank Kenya’s computer systems.
Johnbosco Odhiambo Okoth appeared before Milimani Magistrate Joan Mati on Thursday, October 22, 2026, where he faced two charges under the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act. Mr, Okoth was charged with unauthorised access contrary to Section 14(1) of the Act and possession of illegal devices and access codes contrary to Section 18(2).
He is accused of unlawfully accessing Premier Bank Kenya’s computer systems on diverse dates between October 1 and October 13, 2026, at the bank’s headquarters in Kilimani, Nairobi, by allegedly infringing security measures knowing that such access was unauthorised.
He also faced an allegation that on October 13, 2026, he was found in possession of a USB stick and an Airtel LTE Mobile MiFi device, which the prosecution alleges were intended to facilitate unauthorised access to the bank’s computer systems. His lawyer asked the court to grant him lenient bond terms, noting that there was no objection to his release. The defence told the court that the accused is a student, has young children and remains innocent until proven guilty.
The court directed that a pre-trial hearing be conducted on November 9, 2026. Magistrate Joan Mati released Okoth on a bond of KSh300,000 or a cash bail of KSh150,000, with two contact persons.
The court also directed him to provide a letter from the chief of the area where he resides. The case will return to court on November 9, 2026, for pre-trial directions.
