Makadara court has scheduled a full hearing for a case involving allegations of obtaining money by false pretenses related to a National Police Service (NPS) recruitment scam. The proceedings, held on January 6, 2026, outlined accusations of a fraudulent scheme targeting hopeful recruits.

The accused faces a second count of obtaining money by false pretenses. Prosecutors allege that between December 1 and December 2, 2025, the defendant deceitfully obtained 800,000 KES from Winnie Chipngetich Rono. The funds were purportedly intended to secure a spot for Rono’s daughter, Brenda Chelagat, within the National Police Service. The defendant entered a plea of not guilty to the charges.

During the application for bond, the defense counsel emphasized the defendant’s status as a family man and his cooperative nature throughout the investigation. “He’s requesting that the court be lenient because he needs to take his children to school. He has been cooperative all along.”– Defense Counsel

While the defense initially proposed a cash bail of 100,000 KES, the prosecution countered by highlighting the total alleged loss of 1.4 million KES (comprising two separate amounts of 600,000 and 800,000).

The Magistrate ultimately set the following terms: Bond of1 million KES with one surety of the same amount.Cash Bail of 400,000 KES.

A point of contention arose regarding a Samsung M30 mobile phone and 350,000 KES in cash that the defense claims were seized at the police station. The prosecution clarified that the phone is being held as a formal exhibit. However, they dismissed the claim of the missing cash stating there is currently no evidence to support the allegation that the money was taken at the station.

The court has set the following schedule for the remainder of the year: Mention Date January 16, 2026, Full Hearing on May 28, 2026.
