Kenyans got temporary relief as high court suspends gazette notice that increased charges on government services including IDs and passports.
This is after Dr Magare Gikenyi challenged the gazette notice dated October 6 increasing charges on a number of services issued by the government.
He argued argues that number of services were increased arbitrary without any formula or public
participation whatsoever.
Margaret said that the increase is likely to affect young Kenyans and hence make
it difficult for them to get Identity cards, the effect which will lead to inability to
get job opportunities.
“From the foregoing, this action of the state will lead to inter alia loss of public confidence and outright abuse of political power to the detriment of
many other young Kenyans in the county,”reads the petition.
Justice Lawrence Mugambi issued the orders following the application by Magare.
