A Nairobi court has granted detectives from Kamukunji Police Station permission to detain two security officers from VIP Club on River Road for 14 days. The two are suspected of involvement in the murder of an unidentified man at the club on May 5, 2025.

The suspects, Felix Ochieng and Rydon Majioni, were arrested at the club following allegations that they attacked and fatally assaulted the man.

According to preliminary investigations, the victim had attended a jam session at VIP Club when he was allegedly targeted by a group of bouncers, reportedly led by Ochieng and Majioni. The assault is said to have been triggered by claims that the man had stolen a phone from another patron.

The suspects allegedly detained the victim in a room within the premises, conducted a search, and reportedly recovered the stolen phone. They then subjected him to a severe beating.

The victim sustained serious injuries during the assault, leaving him immobile, in pain, and bleeding heavily. He was abandoned on the floor and discovered the next day around midday by a club worker, who alerted officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) at Kamukunji.

Upon visiting the scene, investigators found several broken sticks believed to have been used in the assault.

DCI officers requested 21 days to hold the suspects, citing concerns that they had interfered with CCTV footage from the club. They also indicated plans to subject the suspects to mental evaluation at Mathari Hospital and conduct an identification parade for eyewitnesses.

However, the suspects opposed the extended detention period, arguing that the 21-day request was excessive.
