The inquest into the death of 23-year-old Jeff Mwathi proceeded today where the Court heard graphic details surrounding the circumstances in which his body was discovered, as the investigating officer narrated key findings from the probe.
Investigating officer Charles Mutua told the court that a postmortem examination conducted by pathologist Dr Peter Ndegwa established that Mwathi suffered multiple organ injuries caused by blunt-force trauma, which the pathologist said was consistent with a fall from a height.
Mutua further told the court that Mwathi had suffered severe head injuries. According to the officer, detectives from the Homicide Unit found his head burst open, with his brain matter on the floor when they arrived at the scene to collect the body.
The court also heard that Mwathi’s trousers were found just below his knees when his body was discovered, corroborating an earlier account presented during the inquest.
The investigating officer told the court that seven people had entered DJ Fatxo’s house on the night Mwathi died.
They were identified as DJ Fatxo, Faith Mutanu, Faith Ndunge, Teresia Wanjiku, Christopher Wahome, Geoffrey Maina and Mwathi.
According to Mutua, four of the occupants DJ Fatxo, Faith Ndunge, Faith Mutanu and Teresia Wanjiku later left the house, leaving Mwathi behind with Wahome and Maina.
The officer told the court that CCTV footage showed DJ Fatxo leaving the house with the four ladies.
The footage also captured Wahome and Maina going downstairs before returning to the house, the court heard.
However, Mutua said investigators had found no account showing the two men leaving the premises after returning upstairs.
He told the court that their whereabouts after that point remain unknown.
The evidence forms part of the ongoing inquest seeking to establish the circumstances surrounding Mwathi’s death and determine what happened in the moments leading to his fatal fall.
