Detectives have arrested a man suspected of participating in a series of robberies targeting people shortly after they withdraw money from banks.
The suspect was apprehended in Embakasi Village following investigations by officers from the Operation Action Team (OAT) and the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB).
Investigators allege that the suspects disguise themselves as traffic police officers to stop and rob unsuspecting motorists moments after they leave banking halls. According to the investigators, the suspects exploit the public’s trust in police uniforms to approach their targets and carry out the robberies.
Intelligence-led investigations, supported by forensic analysis, reportedly identified four individuals suspected of involvement in the incidents.
One of the suspects, identified as Muia Mutune, also known as Fredrick Mbuta, had previously been arrested in April 2026 over similar allegations before being released on bond in July. Detectives continued pursuing the leads and subsequently traced Mutune to Embakasi Village, where he was arrested.
The suspect remains in police custody as officers complete the necessary procedures ahead of his expected arraignment in court. The allegations against him are yet to be determined by a court.
Meanwhile, detectives are pursuing the other suspects believed to be connected to the alleged robberies, who remain at large.
