A sitting Member of the County Assembly (MCA) in Kitui County has been arrested by detectives over a series of alleged mobile phone thefts reported in Nairobi’s Central Business District, following investigations that reportedly placed him at the centre of three separate incidents.
Cyrus Kisavi Musyoka, the MCA representing Ikanga/Kyatune Ward, was arrested along Mfangano Street by detectives from Kamukunji Police Station after they acted on intelligence linking him to the reported thefts.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the detectives had been investigating the three incidents, which were reported in August and September 2026. CCTV footage played a key role in the investigations, with detectives using the recordings to identify the MCA in connection with the reported incidents.
The arrest also brought to light an outstanding warrant against Musyoka in a separate criminal case. The MCA is wanted in Criminal Case No. 112/303/2024 after failing to attend court following his release on bond by Makadara Law Courts, where he had previously been charged with stealing. Detectives arrested him as investigations into the reported phone thefts continued, with the outstanding warrant adding another legal matter to be addressed.
Musyoka was being held in police custody as detectives completed the necessary processing ahead of his arraignment in court, where he is expected to answer to the allegations against him.
The DCI reiterated that no one is above the law, stating that detectives would continue following leads and bringing suspects before the courts to answer to alleged criminal conduct, regardless of their position or status in society.
