Two employees of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) have been arrested by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over allegations of soliciting and receiving a bribe from a taxpayer seeking resolution of a tax dispute.
The suspects, Faith Gathoni Njoroge and Tyson Marango Owuor, both attached to KRA’s Upper Hill offices in Nairobi, were arrested following a complaint lodged with the anti-graft agency.
According to EACC, the two allegedly demanded Sh3 million from a taxpayer in exchange for influencing the resolution of a Capital Gains Tax assessment valued at Sh4.5 million.
The Commission launched an operation after receiving the complaint and reportedly caught the two suspects receiving Sh900,000, which investigators say was part of the agreed bribe amount.
The cash was recovered during the operation and the suspects were immediately arrested.
EACC said the two are currently being processed at the Integrity Centre as investigations continue.
The anti-graft agency indicated that appropriate action will be taken against the suspects under the provisions of the Anti-Bribery Act, 2016, upon completion of investigations.
The arrests come amid ongoing efforts by EACC to crack down on corruption and bribery within public institutions and enhance accountability in the delivery of government services.
