In today’s court news, former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu got relief after the high court gave him leave to amend his bail application which had earlier on been denied.

Waititu who is currently serving a prison term following his conviction on corruption charges had been denied bail pending appeal.

In a fresh motion, Waititu sought permission to update his petition by introducing new evidence and additional legal arguments to support his bid for release.

The court has now granted this request, allowing him a renewed chance to seek bail while his appeal is under review.

The former county chief was handed a 12-year sentence or an alternative fine of Ksh. 53.5 million after being found guilty of conflict of interest in a corruption case involving Ksh. 588 million.

Additionally, Waititu has been disqualified from contesting any political office for the next 10 years.
