A former accountant at the Nuclear Power and Energy Agency (NuPEA) has been fined Sh130,000 after admitting to using forged academic documents to obtain employment.
Milimani Anti-Corruption Court Magistrate Hon. Ndombi convicted Lilian Mweche Muyumba on October 19, 2026, after she pleaded guilty to two charges under a plea agreement with the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The court imposed a fine of Sh30,000 for uttering a false document and Sh100,000 for presenting a forged certificate. Muyumba will serve one year in prison for the first offence and two years for the second if she fails to pay the respective fines.
Investigations by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) established that Muyumba submitted a fraudulent Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate claiming she had sat her examinations at Moi Girls Secondary School, Nangili, in 1996. The certificate was allegedly used to support her application for employment at NuPEA.
She had initially faced three charges, including forging a KCSE certificate, uttering a false document under Sections 353 and 349 of the Penal Code, and presenting a forged certificate contrary to Section 34(a) of the Kenya National Examinations Council Act. However, she admitted guilt to the charges of uttering a false document and presenting a forged certificate.
The EACC welcomed the court’s decision, saying the conviction sends a warning to individuals who use fraudulent academic credentials to secure employment.
