Hospital Horror: Patient Arrested Over Kenyatta National Hospital Ward Murders

In a chilling twist to the Kenyatta National Hospital ward killings, homicide detectives have arrested Kennedy Kalombotole a patient at the facility as the prime suspect behind the brutal murders of two fellow patients.

Kalombotole, who had been admitted to KNH since December 1, 2024, is now at the centre of investigations into the grisly killing of Edward Maingi Ndegwa, who was admitted to Ward 7B, Group C (Male), on July 11, 2025, and found dead six days later on July 17.

According to hospital staff, the victim was last seen alive and stable around 1:30 p.m. by a relative. Just 30 minutes later, a cleaner discovered blood pooling from his neck. Detectives were called in immediately.

Their investigation led them to Kalombotole’s room within the same hospital wing, where blood-stained slippers and a soiled bedsheet were recovered. Traces of blood had trailed from the victim’s bed to a nearby toilet and into a side room Kalombotole’s.

Outside, beneath the window of the deceased’s ward, officers recovered a knife wrapped in gloves, believed to be the murder weapon. All items have been forwarded to the National Forensic Laboratory for analysis.

Shockingly, this is not the first murder Kalombotole is suspected of. Preliminary findings have tied him to the death of Gilbert Kinyua Muthoni, who was murdered in Ward 7C during the night of February 6–7, 2025 while Kalombotole was also admitted as a patient.

Although a file had earlier been submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) in relation to the first murder, further inquiries were ordered to reinforce the case.

Kalombotole is currently in police custody pending arraignment.

The bizarre and horrifying case has reignited calls for enhanced surveillance and screening within hospital wards to protect vulnerable patients especially from threats hiding in plain sight.
