Kirinyaga Women Rep Njeri Maina on Friday condemned the decision by the state to refer to youths as terrorists and dragging them to court.
Maina who is one of the lawyers representing 16 youths arrested for alleged terrorism acts said it’s wrong for police to brand the young boys as terrorists.
It is alleged that the 16 suspects were arrested over alleged involvement in a terrorist act at Makongeni Police station.
The suspects who were arraigned before Kahawa Law Courts are alleged to have committed a violent attack on June 25, at Makongeni Police station.
According to the charge sheet, the group, along with others not before the court, allegedly commited acts targeting government offices and vehicles, resulting in damage to property and injuries to police officers on duty.
“The state is procuring violence against its people and to frame and criminalise political decent. We have seen very commendable news on mainstream media showing a trail by trail evidence that this is what some politicians say that they will be mobilising goons. The goons are seen protected by the police officers to loot and destroy properties and even attack civilians,” Maina submitted.
She further said that the government has lost traction and has been unable to deliver on their agenda for the citizens of Kenya.
She further condemned the “shoot to kill” orders by government officials.
The 16 suspects are currently being held in custody pending ruling of the court on July 30 on whether they will be detained for further investigations.
