The Constitutional and Human Rights Division at Milimani will have a new face on the bench following the transfer of Justice Bahati Mwamuye to Kiambu.

The judge announced his redeployment during the mention of a matter that had been pending before him, informing parties that he would no longer be able to proceed with the case due to his transfer.

“Matter is pending case management due to developments in this case. I will allocate this matter. I am proceeding on transfer and I would not be able to handle this matter,” he stated in open court.

Justice Mwamuye directed that the court file be placed before the incoming judge for further directions. He proposed May 4 as the next mention date, noting that the new judge would be available to take over the matter.

His transfer marks the end of his tenure at the Milimani-based Constitutional and Human Rights Division, where he has been handling public interest litigation, constitutional petitions and judicial review applications.

During his time at the division, Justice Mwamuye presided over matters touching on governance, enforcement of fundamental rights and freedoms, and the interpretation of constitutional provisions. He also handled interlocutory applications, issued conservatory orders in deserving cases, and steered complex constitutional disputes through critical case management stages.

With his move to Kiambu, litigants and advocates in the Constitutional and Human Rights Division will now await the assignment of a new judge to take over his docket and continue with the pending matters.
