Clinton Alex Omondi, a medical student at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Nairobi campus, was on Tuesday arraigned before the Thika Law Courts, where he was charged with theft.

The charge sheet stated that between March 1 and April 30, 2024, at Juja Farm in Kiambu County, Omondi stole personal documents belonging to his cousin, Ken Rogers. The stolen items included a national identification card, birth certificate, KRA PIN, KCPE certificate, and KCSE certificate.

He also faced an alternative charge of being in possession of stolen goods. The particulars indicated that on October 27, 2025, at KMTC Nairobi campus, he was found with the said documents, knowing that they were stolen.

Omondi pleaded not guilty to both charges. The court initially granted him a cash bail of Ksh 20,000, with the mention of the case set for November 21 and the hearing scheduled for April 16, 2026.

After the plea, Omondi requested to address the court, explaining that he was a medical student currently awaiting exams this week and was unaware of the exact exam dates. He also told the court that the complainant was his cousin, who dropped out of school after being asked to repeat his first year due to missing classes.

Senior Resident Magistrate advised that since the two were relatives, they should try to reconcile the matter as a family by involving their parents.

Omondi further pleaded with the court to reduce the Ksh 20,000 cash bail, saying he came from a single-parent family and that his mother was not present in court. When asked about his identification documents, he said he had left them in his school room where he was arrested.

The magistrate reduced the cash bail to Ksh 10,000 and advised Omondi to speak to his cousin before the next court appearance for reconciliation, and if they were unable to reconcile in the presence of their parents, a mediator may be appointed to assist them.

The case will be mentioned on November 21, 2025
