A 19-year-old man who claims to be President William Ruto’s son was on Thursday set free after a Nairobi court showed him rare compassion, choosing guidance over punishment.

Senior Principal Magistrate Mark Ekhubi released Nelson Ibrahim Kidero, also known as Nelson Murithi, on condition that he does not repeat the offence within a year, directing that he be placed under the care of his uncle for counseling, medical attention, and mentorship.

The young man had been charged with unlawfully entering the parliamentary precincts, contrary to the Parliamentary Powers and Privileges Act.

But what started as an ordinary criminal proceeding quickly turned emotional when Magistrate Ekhubi took a moment to speak directly to the teenager not as a convict, but as a young man in need of direction.

The magistrate urged the youth to consider turning his life around, even suggesting he study law and work toward becoming a magistrate one day.

Kidero, however, humbly declined the suggestion and told the court his dream is to become a barista.

Moved by his response, the magistrate addressed the family, reminding them of their responsibility.

“Since this young man was brought before the court, efforts have been made to contact his family. Please tell his father to show more concern for his son,” he said.

The uncle, present in court, assured the magistrate that he would take full responsibility for Kidero’s welfare and ensure he receives the care he needs.

According to court documents, Kidero was arrested on the night of August 7, 2025, after allegedly being found within the parking area of Bunge Towers in Nairobi without lawful authority.

In a moment that softened the courtroom, what could have been a harsh sentence turned into a compassionate plea for family, healing, and hope a reminder that sometimes, empathy from the bench can change a young life’s direction.
