A man has been charged before a Nairobi court with assaulting a traffic police officer who was controlling traffic along Thika Superhighway.
The accused, Michael Musyoka, is also facing charges of destroying a police officer’s mobile phone, obstructing a police officer from performing his duties and resisting arrest.
According to the charge sheet, the incident occurred on November 4, 2026, when Musyoka allegedly assaulted Corporal Richard Nyakundi as he was controlling traffic along Thika Superhighway. The prosecution further accused Musyoka of preventing Corporal Nyakundi from executing his lawful duties, an act alleged to be contrary to the law.
In a separate count, Musyoka was charged with maliciously damaging a mobile phone belonging to Chief Inspector Patrick, valued at Sh53,000. He also faced an additional charge of resisting arrest by a police officer.
Musyoka appeared before Magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo, where he denied all the charges brought against him.
The court subsequently released him on a bond of Sh500,000, with an alternative cash bail of Sh100,000 as he awaits further court proceedings.
