A man accused of impersonating a police officer and extorting members of the public has been arrested along Jogoo Road in Nairobi following a tip-off from residents.
The suspect, identified as Augustine Mjomba Mwadime, was apprehended by officers from Jogoo Road Police Station at DC Stage after members of the public raised concerns about his suspicious activities.
Police said the man had been presenting himself as a law enforcement officer while allegedly targeting unsuspecting individuals for extortion. When challenged, Mwadime reportedly claimed to hold the rank of Sergeant and said he was attached to the General Service Unit (GSU) Training School in Embakasi.
However, officers became suspicious of his claims and conducted a search that uncovered items allegedly used to support his false identity. Among the items recovered was a purported certificate of appointment bearing a forged service number, a pair of handcuffs and two keys.
The suspect was subsequently taken into custody for processing as investigations continue ahead of his expected arraignment in court.
