A man who faked the death of a former governor’s son to fraudulently obtain money from unsuspecting members of the public has been charged.
Enock Kipng’etich was arraigned before a milimani court and charged with obtaining money by false pretence.
Police alleged that Kipng’etich obtained Sh 120,000 in April this year from Joseph Njoroge which was his contribution towards the burial of Ex Narok governor Samuel Tunai son.
He had allegedly lied to unsuspecting Kenyans that the governor’s son had died in a road accident and he was collecting money for the burial.
According to police, when Njoroge realised late that he had been duped through the fake death he immediately reported to the police and a manhunt was put in place to apprehend Kipngetich.
He was arrested on July 28 and booked for the offence of obtaining money by false pretence.
He denied the charge before Magistrate Susan Shitubi and pleaded with the court to grant him reasonable bail terms.
He was released on a Sh 100,000 bond and a surety of the same amount or an alternative cash bail of Sh 30,000.
The case will be mentioned August 14 for pre-trial.
