A 25-year-old man has been charged with grievous harm after allegedly stabbing and severely injuring a young woman during a violent robbery incident near one of the hotels inside the JKIA airport.

Brian Ngolya, the suspect, appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Wandia Nyamu at the Makadara Law Courts, where he was charged with unlawfully causing grievous harm contrary to Section 234 of the Penal Code.

The prosecution alleges that on the night of July 9, 2025, Ngolya attacked Philgona Muganda, also 25, as she was walking home from her job at Four Points by Sheraton, near JKIA, shortly after midnight.

According to police reports, Ngolya is said to have trailed Muganda before pulling out a blade reportedly part of a nail cutter and attempting to stab her in the neck while demanding her mobile phone. Muganda, however, resisted and used her hand to shield herself, suffering deep lacerations to her fingers during the ensuing struggle.

The injured victim was rushed to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, where doctors documented serious soft tissue injuries classified as grievous harm, prompting the ODPP to escalate the matter to a more serious charge.

Ngolya, who allegedly confessed to following Muganda and trying to grab her phone, denied the charges in court.

He was released on cash bail of Sh 100,000, and the matter has been scheduled for pretrial mention on September 8, 2025.
