A Nairobi man has been arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts on multiple counts of obtaining money by false pretenses after allegedly defrauding a family of more than Sh500,000 by promising non-existent jobs in Denmark.

Daniel Mbithi Kyalo appeared before the court following his arrest on Wednesday. Prosecutors told the court that Kyalo operated from offices at Norwich House along Kimathi Lane, where he allegedly posed as a recruitment consultant capable of securing overseas employment opportunities.

According to the court files, Kyalo is accused of targeting two women Christine Jelagat Sitienei and Winnie Jepchirchir who were seeking a warehouse operative position abroad for their relative, Vincent Kipkemboi Birgen. The prosecution alleges that between July and September 2025, Kyalo obtained Sh253,000 from Ms Sitienei under the pretext that he would facilitate the job placement. In April 2025, he is further accused of receiving an additional Sh253,000 from Ms Jepchirchir for the same purpose.

In both transactions, the state maintains that Kyalo falsely represented that he was in a position to secure employment in Denmark, a claim prosecutors say he knew to be untrue at the time.

Appearing before Milimani Chief Magistrate Dolphina Alego, Kyalo denied all the charges. The court granted him a cash bail of Sh200,000 or an alternative bond of Sh500,000 pending the hearing and determination of the case.
