Naivasha Member of Parliament Jayne Kihara has been released on a bond of Ksh.50,000 as the court considers an application to suspend her prosecution in an incitement case.
Kihara, who was arrested on Thursday afternoon, appeared before the Milimani Law Courts on Friday morning, where she was expected to face charges of offensive conduct.
She is accused of disturbing the peace under Section 94(1) of the Penal Code, Cap 63 of the Laws of Kenya, over remarks she allegedly made in Nairobi on July 8 during the youth-led protests.
According to the proposed charge sheet, Kihara claimed that goons were being transported in government vehicles and that police failed to act against them. She also allegedly implicated the President in her statements remarks the prosecution argues were intended to incite a breach of peace.
However, Kihara’s legal team dismissed the charges as politically motivated, terming them a form of persecution.
