Amos Nzomo Kimanzi, the second suspect in the ongoing investigation into the alleged use of OCS Samson Taalam’s phone while in the custody of the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), has been arraigned before a Nairobi court.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) sought four days to hold Nzomo, saying they needed more time to finalize investigations before forwarding the file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for review.

He was arraigned before Principal Magistrate Carolyne Mugo at Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi where the DCI sought to detain him for four extra days.

Nzomo is under investigation for several offences, including unauthorized interception under Section 17(2)(a) of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act, computer fraud, and identity theft. According to the investigating officer, Nzomo’s phone was allegedly used to send the SIM replacement request for OCS Taalam’s number.

The court was told that after the SIM replacement was completed, the IMEI of the device containing the replaced card was paired with a subscriber number registered under the ID of Ronoh Kiprotich Brian — the first suspect in the case.

Nzomo was arrested on August 11, 2025, in the Pipeline area of Nairobi County and informed of the reason for his arrest. The DCI asked the court to grant them four days to search his premises and recover other items believed to be in his possession.

Investigators expressed concern that releasing Nzomo at this stage could jeopardize the case, as he might interfere with or destroy evidence.

Magistrate’s court granted the request, ordering that Nzomo remain in custody until August 19, 2025
