Two directors of Flexitech Group Limited have been taken into police custody over allegations of misappropriating more than Sh31 million belonging to a major retail company.
The suspects, identified as Martin Kariuki Maina and Johnson Gituma Mwangi, were arrested by detectives attached to the DCI Nairobi Regional Office during an operation in Roysambu.
Their arrest followed a complaint filed by the retailer, which accused the two men of failing to remit money collected from customers.
Investigators allege that the suspects, who served as agents for the company through Flexitech Group Limited, received Sh31,213,700.95 from customers who had purchased and collected products from different branches of the retailer.
The money was reportedly entrusted to the suspects for transfer to the retailer. However, detectives investigating the matter claim that the funds were instead diverted for personal use.
Police further allege that the two directors acted together with other individuals who have not yet been apprehended.
The suspects remain in custody as detectives complete processing ahead of their expected appearance at the Milimani Law Courts, where they are set to face charges of stealing by agent under Section 283(b) of the Penal Code.
Investigations are still underway as detectives work to identify and locate other people suspected of being involved in the alleged theft.
