Three brothers from a wealthy family have each been sentenced to 30 years in prison in New York after being convicted of sexually assaulting women over a period spanning several years.

Tal Alexander, 40, and twins Oren and Alon Alexander, 39, were found guilty in March of using their wealth and social connections to attract women to parties and luxury properties, where prosecutors said they drugged and raped their victims.

During Tuesday’s sentencing hearing, 12 victims addressed the court, describing the lasting psychological effects of the assaults and urging the judge to impose the harshest possible penalties.

Judge Valerie Caproni condemned the brothers’ conduct, telling them their actions had caused profound harm to the victims.

Several women recounted how the assaults had affected their ability to trust others and feel safe. Maya Miller told the court that an assault by Tal Alexander in 2014 had permanently altered her sense of security.

Another victim, identified by the pseudonym Isa Brooks, said she was 16 when Tal and Alon Alexander raped her, leaving her struggling to trust her own judgment. A further woman told the court that when she considered reporting an alleged assault, Tal Alexander threatened her by referring to his knowledge of where her sister worked.

Prosecutor Elizabeth Espinosa urged the judge to impose life sentences, arguing that the evidence demonstrated a prolonged pattern of luring women with promises of luxury and leaving them with lasting trauma.

The brothers’ lawyers had sought 15-year prison terms, citing their family responsibilities and arguing that their absence would have a significant impact on their children. All three men addressed the court and maintained their innocence. Tal Alexander described their lifestyle as centred on working hard and enjoying themselves, while acknowledging that their behaviour had hurt people.

Judge Caproni questioned whether rehabilitation was possible without the brothers acknowledging the wrongdoing established at trial.

The five-week trial featured testimony from 11 women, some of whom said they were minors when the assaults occurred. Prosecutors alleged that the brothers offered gifts and arranged trips to destinations including Aspen and the Bahamas before drugging and sexually assaulting women.

The prosecution also presented allegations that the brothers used physical force to restrain victims and continued their assaults despite their objections. The defence maintained that the sexual encounters were consensual, portraying the men as womanisers rather than sexual abusers.

The court imposed 30-year prison terms for certain offences and additional 20-year sentences for other crimes. The judge ordered the sentences to run concurrently, meaning the additional terms will be served at the same time rather than consecutively.

Tal and Oren Alexander built successful careers in luxury real estate in New York and Miami. They previously worked for Douglas Elliman before establishing their own brokerage, Official, in 2022. Their brother Alon worked in the family’s private security business, Kent Security.

The sentencing marks a major development in a case involving allegations of sexual abuse that prosecutors said stretched back to the brothers’ school years, although the criminal charges at trial concerned conduct beginning in 2008.
