Family Demands Inquest Into Mysterious Death of late Betty Bayo

The family of Beatrice Wairimu Mbugua, popularly known as Betty Bayo, is demanding a formal inquest into her sudden and unexplained death, accusing authorities of concealing critical information and failing to follow proper procedures.

In a letter dated December 9, 2025, addressed to the Director of Public Prosecutions, the family’s lawyers Omenke Andeje & Company Advocates said the deceased had no prior medical complications and her abrupt death left the family with “unbearable pain.” They believe an “evil hand” may have played a role.

The family lists four troubling issues: Betty had no history of any underlying condition, her relatives were denied an autopsy report, she was buried hurriedly, and the family was blocked from accessing her medical records and information on what she was being treated for.

They argue that the circumstances surrounding her death were suspicious and require urgent intervention from the Inspector General of Police. The letter requests that the DPP direct the IG to speedily institute a full inquest to uncover the truth.

The lawyers insist the request aligns with Articles 26(3), 35, and 157(4) of the Constitution, emphasizing the family’s constitutional right to information and a transparent investigation.

The correspondence is copied to the Inspector General of Police, signalling the family’s determination to escalate the matter until a formal probe is opened.
